Friendship Centre Athens

Since 1985, Latter-Day Saint Charities has provided assistance to millions of people in 195 countries. One of our missions is to offer support to refugees and displaced persons around the world.  We have responded to the refugee crisis by developing a three-pronged approach: immediate relief, long-term aid, and resettlement support. To accomplish our work, we have joined with a variety of trusted local and global partners to support refugees.

Latter-day Saint Charities Friendship Centre, a community centre for both Greeks and refugees, opened its doors February 2018, and was the first of our Friendship Centres!  There are now 5 Friendship Centres in Europe - one in Rome, one in Milan, and 2 in London.  

Our leaders felt that refugees could live without a lot of things, but they could not live without hope!  The goal of the Friendship Centre is to give a refugees a place to come and find friends, learn new skills, work toward integration, and feel that they are part of a community.

The Friendship Centre has been successfully teaching Greek and English classes each week, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, for the past 19 months.

We have a wonderful book for teaching conversational English called "English Connect I and English Connect II" which we give to each individual who registers for classes.

For Greek classes we give each student a copy of METAdrasi's Greek textbook that was published specifically for refugees, with both Farsi and Arabic sub-titles.
